Yoga Mantras for Good Health

May 29, 2021yogaUncategorizedNo comments

Mantra and Chanting have long been associated with Yoga Practice. The sounds of Mantras are far more forceful than other sounds. Etymologically, the word “mantra” is derived from the verb “man,’ which means “to think,” and the suffix “tra,” which denotes instrumentality. A mantra then is literally an “Instrument of Thought” that concentrates, intensifies, and spiritualizes our consciousness.

Aims And Objectives
  • To deepen one’s thought for developing the enlightened mind.
  • To become aware of the self and observe mental relaxation.

Starting Shanthi Mantra

Om Saha Naav-Avatu |
Saha Nau Bhunaktu |
Saha Viiryam Karavaavahai |
Tejasvi NaavAdhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvissaavahai |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih |
Meaning:
1: Om, Together may we two Move (in our Studies, the Teacher and the Student),
2: Together may we two Relish (our Studies, the Teacher and the Student),
3: Together may we perform (our Studies) with Vigour (with deep Concentration),
4: May what has been Studied by us be filled with the Brilliance (of Understanding, leading to Knowledge); May it Not give rise to Hostility (due to lack of Understanding),
5: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

Closing Shanthi Mantra

oṃ sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
sarve santu nirāmayāḥ
sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścidduḥ khabhāgbhaveta
।
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ
॥
Meaning: May all sentient beings be at peace,
may no one suffer from illness,
May all see what is auspicious, may no one suffer.
Om peace, peace, peace.
